Chasing after Shadow
VANITY?
My father was the late rich business tycoon of the Cocoa industry, he had many mansions throughout the world with beautiful wives chosen from different ethnicity and then blessed with plenteous children.
As a caring father, he gave all his children the best education money could get and opportunities to explore our worlds.
We are forever grateful and proud of him.
He was a true Nationalist and a devouted philanthropist.
When he died, the world momentarily stopped to honour the opulent man.
We buried him in a golden casket, and decorated his graveyard with diamond and gold, right in his hometown.
All in remembrance of a righteous business man.
Years rolled by, the economy of the country forced many of my siblings to travel out of the country; yes I left the country as well but came back and was gainfully employed into politics.
I am a NIGERIAN POLITICIAN by profession, career and calling; what a far more rewarding job to get employed into.
The last time I visited my hometown was when we did the funeral of my beloved father 18years ago, his surviving wives were taken abroad by their children and none of his children cared about his property for we are all comfortable with what we have.
And so last month, I received emissary from my hometown.
They said my father's mansion, the then biggest and most beautiful one in the whole state is now being inhabited by miscreants!
I left for my village the following day, I could no longer recognise my father's graveyard; I doubt if the golden casket is still housing his body in the grave for the golden and diamond adoration are now missing.
I have to get people to stay in this mansion and then pay them to live in my father's once upon a time mighty building.
This life is so funny!!!
Why do I have to build many houses when I can't live in more than one at a time?
Why do I have to chase after money, when money will actually outlive me?
Human thinking...
Why is Diamond costlier than Graphite when they are both Carbon an element?
I now live in a 500million naira worth of mansion here in Lagos thanks to my political job, my wife refused to come back to Nigeria while my children ran back to America the following day after they arrived just because the was light outage!
What will happen to these my properties, after I leave?
Am I not chasing after shadow?
