Oníbodè Apòmù
In those days when humans ate just what they needed, that there was no immigration law and organised religion causing unhealthy rivalry was not in existence; people lived in peace with NATURE.
In those days, it was an abomination for anyone to die of hunger and starvation for the system of living then was Communal and not the materialistic seeking system giving delusion of wealth accumulation whereas in the actual essence...everyone is poor, poor to death and condemn to decompose and rot.
Talking about that old Oyo Empire with a well structured seat of governance, and the convenience of the people was more of a great concern to the leadership.
At the declining state of this once upon a great Kingdom, greed and selfishness crept in and things were fast falling apart. It was during this era that a notorious gang of arm bandit did terrorise the innocent citizens of the Kingdom; they were merciless and fearless.
So, the King of Oyo Empire (Ikú bàbá yèyé, aláse ìkejì oòsà) called on his Chiefs to know how to arrest the growing rate of crime in his domain. And it was agreed upon that the Robbers must be arrested and killed.. So chief OníbodèApòmù from the Apòmù county was assigned the duty of arresting the crime-doers.
Oh, need I tell you that these fierce thieves were always in mask whenever they were to carry out their nefarious act.
And the Orisa (Gods) were with Onibode Apomu, he caught the thieves and took them to his own palace. See my friend, when the leader of the gang was unmasked...it was the Prince, I mean the very crowned prince, heir to the kingdom of Oyo empire. Onibode Apomu got terribly confused, he said; "Oba ránni n'ísé, Odò Obà kún; isé Oba kò seé kò,
Odò Obà naa kòsì se ro'lù..."
Eventually, he ordered the Prince to be beaten and then pleaded with him to quit the profession; so he assured him that he would keep the prince's secret. Onibode Apomu forgot that, "Pátápátá làá f'Oju, kùmbòkumbo làá d'Étè,
Ojú àfó ìfótán ìjà ní ń dá'lè."
Years later, the Prince became the King of Oyo and the first he did was to order his police to go and get him the head of Onibode Apomu in a calabash! He killed the one man that saved him back then, but do I blame him? No, I blame Onibode Apomu who failed to deliver the right justice at the right time...justice delayed is always denied.
Look my friend, do the right thing at the right time that you may reap its result at the good time.
Onibode Apomu, was murdered...
"Ìlọ yá Oníbodè Apòmù
