Humans of Lagos Episode 39
Humans of Lagos
"I'm in search of a new apartment."
My present landlady is not a considerate being. Despite the hardship that the economy of the country is given unto every citizen; I was able to raise half of my yearly rent. I begged her to collect it from me while I make the complete balance in thirty days, she refused, she said she doesn't collect half payment.
I worked harder, sourced for loan and completed the payment. I went to her place, gave her the money; and as a normal practice, I was expecting my payment receipt. She then gave the excuse of not having her receipt with her, I couldn't accept that because it is my right to get an instant receipt; more-so, she's lost her respect from me since she's not considerate. She claimed that I'm a rude lady.
She brought a letter of quit notice, and she asked me to vacate within seven days. She was so wrong, I pay yearly so I'm entitled to six month eviction notice. I made a report to my lawyer friend about it, and he served her a letter to educate her of my right to stay in her house within six month without payment.
She got angry when she got the letter, she hated me for countering her action. She wanted to be respected as an elder while she cheat on younger ones, but this I can't take.
She eventually rescinded her eviction plan, she asked me to pay the money. Unfortunately, I've used the money on other things. I'm even fed up of the apartment, and I'm ready to leave as soon as I get a new one.
She's now very angry, and threatened to sue me to court.
I'm not afraid of court, no I'm not.
It is only that here in my country, people go to court when to defend embezzled billions of Naira, not few thousands like this.
My lawyer told me that the court will still her to give me six months to get a new apartment, but I don't like going to court when the money is just about few thousands.
